Redwood Coast Medical Services (RCMS) will continue to offer vaccines on Mondays and Fridays in the Triage shed from 11:00 A to 5:00 PM outside the Gualala Medical Center, 46900 Ocean Drive in Gualala.
RCMS will also host a flu/COVID-19 vaccination event at the South Coast Fire Department, 39215 Church Street in Gualala on Saturday, November 6 from 9:00 AM to noon. These vaccination events will always follow the current public health guidelines and will be "while supplies last." For individuals who received a Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, the following groups are eligible for a booster shot at 6 months or more after their initial series:
For the nearly 15 million people who got the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, booster shots are also recommended for those who are 18 and older and who were vaccinated two or more months ago. There are now booster recommendations for all three available COVID-19 vaccines in the United States. Eligible individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose. Some people may have a preference for the vaccine type that they originally received, and others may prefer to get a different booster. CDC’s recommendations now allow for this type of mix and match dosing for booster shots. Millions of people are newly eligible to receive a booster shot and will benefit from additional protection. However, today’s action should not distract from the critical work of ensuring that unvaccinated people take the first step and get an initial COVID-19 vaccine. More than 65 million Americans remain unvaccinated, leaving themselves – and their children, families, loved ones, and communities– vulnerable. Currently there is no COVID-19 vaccine approved for children under 12 years of age but expanded authorization is expected in the coming weeks and RCMS would like to gather information on community interest so that we can be better prepared when that approval is announced. RCMS is committed to vaccinating children with safe and thoughtful planning and your participation in this survey will help us strategize so that we can serve our community in the best possible way. Please complete the online survey at this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2RWDFGL Your family's privacy is of the utmost importance to us and the information you share with us will not be shared with any other organization, it is simply to help us better plan for upcoming vaccination events. Saturday November 6, 2021 9:00 am to Noon South Coast Volunteer Fire Department 39215 Church Street, Gualala RCMS will be hosting a combined flu shot and COVID-19 shot clinic at the South Coast Volunteer Fire Department Saturday, November 6. You can come to get your flu vaccine, your COVID-19 vaccine (first, second, third, or booster dose), or both at the same time! Who can get flu or COVID-19 shot? Anyone 12 years and older. Can one get their flu shot and COVID-19 vaccine on the same day? YES Is RCMS offering the high dose “senior flu shot”? No. We only have the standard dosing. This is the shot RCMS offers every year. The CDC advises that either the standard dose or high dose flu shot is acceptable for persons older than 65 years of age. If you want to get the higher dose “senior shot”, please check with commercial pharmacies outside our area. RCMS will not be offering the high dose flu shot. Why should I get a flu shot? Influenza (the flu), like COVID-19, can cause some very serious respiratory illnesses. During COVID-19 times, it is much more important to prevent the flu, because having both infections in our community can increase risk for patients, but also increase confusion regarding “which illness” you have and can lead to challenges for our clinic and ambulance staff, as well as loss of time from school and work. Flu plus COVID-19 vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones against potentially serious respiratory illnesses. What COVID-19 shots are being offered at this event? We are offering Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson. Can I finish my two shot series? Yes! Please bring your vaccine card. Your second Pfizer dose is three weeks from the first. Your second Moderna dose is four weeks from the first. Can I get a third COVID-19 vaccine? THIRD DOSE: If you are immunocompromised and need a third dose to complete your three shot series, you can get a third MODERNA or PFIZER dose with a doctor’s order. This can be given one month or more after your second shot. Please bring your vaccine card. BOOSTER DOSE: Booster shots have been approved for PFIZER recipients only, if it has been more than six months from your first vaccine, and you meet the following criteria. Please bring your vaccine card.
What if I cannot attend this vaccine clinic? RCMS is currently providing COVID-19 vaccines in the triage/screening house outside of the main Gualala clinic Mondays and Fridays from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Please call (707) 884-4005 to inquire about flu shot availability. What if my child is less than 12 years old? You can make an appointment for your child to get a flu shot at RCMS as a patient visit. Currently, COVID-19 shots have not approved for children under 12 years of age. Please call RCMS at 707-884-4005 to schedule an appointment. Medicare's Open Enrollment Period is here! Now's the time to compare Medicare plans for 2022. Why compare plans for next year? Plans change, and your health care needs or situation may have changed, too. Think about what benefits matter to you and find a Medicare plan that fits your needs. Visit Medicare.gov through December 7 to compare plans and make any changes. If you decide to change plans, your new coverage will start January 1. Remember: When comparing plans, look at the estimated "Yearly Drug & Premium Cost."
