RCMS encourages everyone 6 months and older to get COVID and influenza (flu) vaccinated. We also recommend anyone over 60 years old to consider also getting vaccinated against RSV (respiratory syncytial virus). We do not yet have COVID, influenza, or adult RSV vaccines at the RCMS clinic. Thus, we recommend anyone traveling out of the area to consider getting these vaccines at a commercial pharmacy while you are in an urban setting, where they may be more readily available. RCMS anticipates getting flu vaccine supplies in early October. At that time, we will announce flu shot clinic details and in-clinic vaccination options. We will not carry the 'high dose' flu vaccine, which is another option for patients 65 and over. (Please note the CDC states it is acceptable for patients over the age of 65 to receive the standard dose flu shot). We are currently unable to offer large community COVID shot clinics, but will inform the community if this becomes a possibility. If you have questions about the RSV vaccine for persons over 60 years of age, speak to your medical provider or pharmacist to see whether you would benefit from this vaccine. For more information about the recently released COVID vaccine, see the CDC website: https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2023/p0912-COVID-19-Vaccine.html.
Choosing between the emergency room (ER) and Urgent Care depends on the severity of the medical issue. The ER is equipped to handle life-threatening emergencies such as severe injuries, chest pain, or difficulty breathing. It operates around the clock and has advanced facilities, including surgical suites and specialized medical staff.
Urgent Care, on the other hand, is best suited for non-life-threatening but still urgent situations like minor injuries, infections, or moderate illnesses. It provides timely care without the long wait times typical of ER visits. Additionally, Urgent Care is often more cost-effective for less severe issues, while the ER tends to be more expensive. Making the right choice ensures prompt and appropriate care for your specific medical needs. We are happy to announce the much-anticipated Grand Opening of our brand-new full-service on site medical pharmacy on Thursday, September 21. The pharmacy is operated by Genoa Healthcare in partnership with RCMS.
A Dedicated Team Our dedicated pharmacist is already on-site, and Genoa Healthcare is actively seeking a skilled pharmacy technician to join their ranks. Together, they will form the backbone of the pharmacy team. Setting the Standard for Communication The Grand Opening day kicks off with an internal meeting, bringing together our pharmacy staff, Genoa leadership, and esteemed providers. This session will focus on establishing clear and effective communication protocols to guarantee seamless collaboration in patient care. Engaging the Community and Elected Leaders We extend an open invitation to our local community and esteemed elected leaders to grace this momentous occasion. Board member Hall Kelly is spearheading our Grand Opening communication efforts, which will also include feature articles in the ICO, among other initiatives. NextGen Technology and Beyond Our pharmacist is well-versed in our NextGen electronic health records system, ensuring that we stay at the forefront of healthcare technology. Additionally, she will serve as our Urgent Care pharmacy auditor, further bolstering the quality of our services. Simplifying Prescription Transfers We understand the importance of a seamless transition. To that end, we're in the process of establishing a user-friendly system that guides our community on transferring their prescriptions from their current pharmacy to our new facility. Your health and well-being are our top priorities. Accessible Hours for Your Convenience Starting September 21, our pharmacy will be open from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. A Full-Service Experience Our pharmacy is more than just a place to pick up your prescriptions. It's a complete healthcare hub, staffed by a licensed pharmacist who is committed to your well-being. In time, we plan to expand our services to include vaccinations, further cementing our role in promoting a healthy community. Dedicated to Your Health It's important to note that while we offer a comprehensive range of prescription medications, we won't stock over-the-counter drugs typically found in local grocery stores. Our focus is squarely on providing specialized care tailored to your specific needs and is not a commercial pharmacy. 340(b) Program Pharmacy In line with our commitment to accessible healthcare, our new pharmacy will also participate in the 340(b) program, ensuring that essential medications are available to those who need them most. Join us on September 21, as we open our doors and welcome you to a new service of comprehensive medical pharmacy care. Your well-being is our priority, and we are always looking at ways to grow and expand our ability to better serve you and the community as a whole. |
