6/24/2024

Picture
Prepare yourself and your home for the possibility of having to evacuate during a fire.

Getting set requires three main preparation actions that should be completed and familiar to all members of your household long in advance of a wildfire.
3 Steps to Getting Set:
  • Create a Wildfire Action Plan that includes evacuation planning for your home, family and pets.
  • Assemble an Emergency Supply Kit for each person in your household.
  • Fill-out a Family Communication Plan that includes important evacuation and contact information.

June 21 2024: And the Survey Says...

6/21/2024

Picture
We send surveys to our patients to get their feedback on our service. The feedback helps us know what we are doing right and where we can get better.

The results of the survey are used by our performance improvement and quality improvement teams and are actively used to improve our delivery and provide you with the best possible service.

Here are some excerpts from our survey responses:

"Part time resident of Sea Ranch. Great asset to have for the community and visitors."

"The doctor and assistants were very thorough in their testing and diagnoses. I really appreciated their care and competence."

"Everything was good and clinician I saw was very knowledgeable. However, I was left waiting in the exam room almost 45 minutes for practitioner to return with summary of visit and medicine. It wasn't clear if I was meant to wait or not. Clearer communication would be helpful."

"I can't begin to express my gratitude for the care I received. I came in feeling horrible and from the moment I arrived until the second I left I was truly impressed with every member of the medical team. I will never forget any of them and will highly recommend RCMS to everybody I know. Thank you doesn't begin to cover it, but Thank You!"

"Care is always excellent. Was able to make same day appointment. Staff is knowledgeable and so helpful.

Learn more about how to prepare for wildfire smoke events by planning ahead.

Here is what you can do to prepare.
  • Get air quality information.
  • If you have an air conditioning system, change your filter regularly if you have an air conditioning system. Having a portable HEPA air cleaner available will also help to create a room with filtered air.
  • Keep a few disposable respirators (i.e. N-95 or P-100 respirators) on hand, in case you need to be outside in smoky conditions.
  • Have a medical plan if you or your family member has a heart or lung disease (such as asthma).
  • If you plan to use a generator during a public safety power shutoff, never use it inside your house.
  • Ensure that you have working carbon monoxide detectors near every sleeping area in your home.

Treasurer’s Financial Snapshot - April Financials 2024

6/6/2024

Picture
Report from the May 22, 2024 Board Meeting
Drew McCalley, Board Treasurer

As of the end of April, RCMS' financial results continue to be better than budgeted, and our financial position remains strong. Patient visits came in very close to budget overall in April.

Primary Care visits continue to trail budget, while Urgent Care visits continue to run above budget. Part of this is due to new Primary Care providers spending some time seeing patients in Urgent Care for training purposes.

Overall, patient service revenue remains above budget year to date. The bottom line was positive for the month, with expenses remaining below budget.

Despite some financial challenges on the horizon for the coming year, due to impending cutbacks in state support for health care, we remain confident that we will be able to maintain our sound financial condition going forward.

RCMS Health Recognition: June is Men's Health Month

6/4/2024

Picture
This month is all about encouraging men in to take care of their bodies by eating right, exercising, and working to prevent disease. The purpose of Men’s Health Month is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of diseases including cancer, heart disease, and depression.

HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL MEN'S HEALTH MONTH
 Tweak your diet
Men's Health Month is a great opportunity to change the way you eat. Cut back on alcohol this month or up your intake of healthy fermented foods like sauerkraut and kefir. You can do anything for a month, and if you do it for a month, you can do it for life!

Set some goals
Use this month to take stock of your health now and think about where you want it to be. Do you want to lose weight? Gain muscle? Simply eat more vegetables? Set small and achievable goals and work with your doctor to make them a reality.

Get educated
Take this opportunity to read about the common health issues that are specific to men and how you can prevent yourself from getting hurt! Check out the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for information on health issues that men face.

WHY NATIONAL MEN'S HEALTH MONTH IS IMPORTANT
That checks out
If you're stressing about a symptom—a busted knee, a persistent headache—it can be easy to get in a cycle of worrying about it. But going to the doctor can do two incredible things: one, it can figure out what's wrong, but two, it can keep you from worrying! Men's Health Month encourages you to get yourself checked out so you can feel better—and stop worrying.

A conversation starter
Men's Health Month gets people talking about health, which gets people acting about health. Gyms get joined, appointments get made, and resolutions get promised. It's a beautiful thing. Join in!

An excuse for pampering
Lots of things that are good for your body are also good for your soul! Play some golf, get a massage, take an extra-long nap. It's all healthy, and if anyone asks the occasion, you've got an answer at the ready: Men's Health Month!

RCMS recognizing June is Cataract Awareness Month

6/4/2024

Picture
What Is A Cataract?
A cataract is the clouding of the lens inside the eye that happens naturally over time.

Cataracts are among the most common age-related eye conditions; it is estimated that over 60% of Americans will develop a cataract at some point during their lifetimes.
What Are Risk Factors For Cataracts?
Anyone can get cataracts. While most people don’t typically show symptoms until at least the age of 40, cataracts can also affect young adults or even children. Heredity, disease, eye injury and smoking could cause cataracts to develop at an earlier age.

 What Are Cataract Symptoms?
Symptoms of a cataract may include:
  • Blurred or distorted vision
  • Sensitivity to light, especially bright lights from oncoming car headlights
  • Need to get closer to see distant objects, such as road signs
  • Loss of depth perception
  • A change in the color of the pupil to a milky white or yellow

How To Prevent Cataracts?
Some steps you can take now to protect your eyes from the formation of cataracts is to wear UV blocking sunglasses, take nutritional supplements, quit smoking, and learn your family health history.

Your vision is precious, and one thing that can help keep your eyes healthy is a comprehensive eye exam at least once every other year.
