Fitness Consultation

Fitness Services at RCMS

Picture
Did you know that even a moderate amount of physical activity can improve your overall health?  Don’t know where to begin?

Talk to your RCMS provider about requesting a fitness consultation.  RCMS teams up with Medical Exercise Specialist, Denny Gold, who can provide fitness and balance assessments and develop an exercise program based on your specific needs.

If you do not get your primary care at RCMS Denny is available by appointment at her offsite office by calling (707) 785-2208.

Certified Medical Exercise Specialist

A Medical Exercise Specialist dedicates their time to improving health and fitness, as well as specializes in individuals who have various medical conditions. This type of health and fitness specialist is focused on improving medical conditions through a program that is tailored to your current fitness level.

Making Requests

There are many reasons that a request for a fitness consultation can be made.
  • Concern over declining balance
  • Exercise is a thing of the past and know you must start moving again
  • Sedentary and don’t know where to begin with a program
Your provider may suggest making an appointment with Denny for a fitness consultation. You can also request consultations to your provider if you have any fitness concerns.

Fitness Assessments For Over 60

Patients should wear close toed shoes and comfortable clothing to  their appointment.  For patients over the age of 60,  a 1 hour assessment includes the following:
  • Measurements of lower and upper body strength
  • Lower and upper body flexibility
  • Aerobic endurance (2 minutes)
  • Dynamic balance (how quickly and safely one can navigate while moving)
Balance assessments can be done by various tests in the office. Depending on the ability of the individual, different standards may be used.

Baseline Assessments

Incorporating physical activity into your daily life is important at all ages. Baseline fitness assessments may include:
  • Posture assessments and recommended exercises to improve posture
  • Develop fitness programs that the patient can do at home
  • Recommendations on exercise equipment to purchase for home fitness
  • Exercises on DVD

Service Fees

Fitness assessment fees are covered by most forms of health insurance. If it is not covered, or if you schedule a private appointment that is not referral from an RCMS provider, a fee may apply.

Offsite Office

Denny Gold’s offsite office is located at 38550 S. Highway 1, Suite F, Gualala in the Elaine Jacob Center.
For appointments through RCMS call (707) 884-4005.  For private appointments call Denny at (707) 785-2208.

Fitness Friends

If  a  patient is homebound or may need exercise assistance in home, Denny can assign a “fitness friend” to walk with them or to do pre-approved exercises. Denny will  speak with a patient, either in the office or at their home and, as a team, determine who would be a good match. Denny will then arrange for the fitness friend to meet the patient and they set up a schedule that works for both. The patient and the fitness friend can contact Denny at any time.

About Denny Gold

Denny has worked in the fitness industry for over 34 years. She is the fitness consultant for RCMS and also has a private studio in Gualala where she can set up one-on-one personal training and teach balance classes. In addition, Denny oversees the local Young At Heart Classes, teaches strength training at the Physical Gym, and teaches an aerobics class at the Del Mar Center.
