Certified Medical Exercise Specialist
A Medical Exercise Specialist dedicates their time to improving health and fitness, as well as specializes in individuals who have various medical conditions. This type of health and fitness specialist is focused on improving medical conditions through a program that is tailored to your current fitness level.
Making Requests
There are many reasons that a request for a fitness consultation can be made.
- Concern over declining balance
- Exercise is a thing of the past and know you must start moving again
- Sedentary and don’t know where to begin with a program

Patients should wear close toed shoes and comfortable clothing to their appointment. For patients over the age of 60, a 1 hour assessment includes the following:
- Measurements of lower and upper body strength
- Lower and upper body flexibility
- Aerobic endurance (2 minutes)
- Dynamic balance (how quickly and safely one can navigate while moving)
Baseline Assessments
Incorporating physical activity into your daily life is important at all ages. Baseline fitness assessments may include:

- Develop fitness programs that the patient can do at home
- Recommendations on exercise equipment to purchase for home fitness
- Exercises on DVD
Service Fees
Fitness assessment fees are covered by most forms of health insurance. If it is not covered, or if you schedule a private appointment that is not referral from an RCMS provider, a fee may apply.

Fitness Friends
If a patient is homebound or may need exercise assistance in home, Denny can assign a “fitness friend” to walk with them or to do pre-approved exercises. Denny will speak with a patient, either in the office or at their home and, as a team, determine who would be a good match. Denny will then arrange for the fitness friend to meet the patient and they set up a schedule that works for both. The patient and the fitness friend can contact Denny at any time.
