Background
In August 2015 Danielle Spoor, former resident, who was visiting home for the summer from her masters program at Stanford University, wrote a grant to increase mental health awareness in our coastal community and interned at RCMS during that month. While she was here she worked on several projects, one of which was to bring a group of emerging community leaders together and begin a conversation about the gaps in behavioral health services and coordinated response in the area.
The result was creating an event that expanded beyond the traditional health fair to include a variety of resources. A healthy community is not just about healthcare, it's also about knowing where to find the help and support that you need, what's available, and what you can do before you need help.
The isolated nature of our small coastal community and social circles can sometimes make it feel like there are not many resources available, or things to be involved in, so community organizations and volunteers came together to remind people about all that we do have in the community.
